In Memory of Forests — The Teachings of a Disappearing Forest

Sometimes those magical moments happen, the ones where you can’t explain what happened, but you could feel the presence of eternity in an instant underneath a tree. Or a breath of air from the forest that cleared a space so deep in your heart that you could see clearly again. Where the complexities of our interconnections become simple as we become the forest once again, and know that we have always been together.

This whole time.

Even as our minds are filled with numbers and wishes, the forest has been there, watching us, gently and serenely. We are a part of themselves, being curious and wonderous, laughing and crying nestled deep in their leaves. Deeply in love with each other, underneath it all.

The forest featured in this book is a deep love of mine, many of the last breaths of the old trees I knew there were spent with me, sitting in their mosses, watching the sun filter through their leaves, listening to their stories. An old growth forest hidden, quietly humming songs of the creatures woven throughout their tapestry.

I was honoured to be part of it.

But then came the time of hasty transitions and confusion that humans can often experience, and then the pain that they can cause without being aware that the pain is also their own.

We all lost that forest.

Large swaths cut and sold. As humans often do.

To the detriment of us all.
